Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks is a mountain resort municipality located 45 minutes from Kamloops. The municipality is built around the ski hill resort and was officially incorporated on June 28, 2010. The municipality has a resident population of 1404 people (2021 Census) with over 1000 non-residents. The community consists of a number of storefronts, restaurants and entertainment. BC’s highest elevation golf course is located in the community offering a full 18 holes. Most recently, a health facility was opened with the support of the community that now houses several physicians to provide health care to residents, property owners and guests of the ski hill resort.
SCHOOL
In 2010, a school was formed to provide the education for the children of the permanent residents. In 2012, SD73 partnered with the Municipality to provide a publicly funded community school, Sun Peaks Elementary. The school has grown significantly from 2010 when there was only 18 students, now there is approximately 105 students in the elementary school program and 29 students in the high school program.
HISTORY
Prior to July 1993, Sun Peaks was known simply as Tod Mountain; it was named after the highest ski mountain at the resort.
